A few months ago this rap artist released his EP entitled ‘Island Love’ which blew the minds of his many fans.

This year, Rosay Kool has been nominated for Rap / Hip – Hop Artist Of The Year at the Barbados Music Awards.  The show takes place on December 18th at the Kensington Oval.

Barbados Music Awards

The Barbados Music Awards (Commonly referred to as the BMA’s) was launched back in 2006 by Ronnie Morris, singer, songwriter, male model and the CEO of Timeless Barbados Inc.

Ronnie began performing at the ripe age of 12 and built his career on an international level as both an artist and model. He had a burning desire to promote his home country of Barbados and show to the world the talent that this little island under the sun has to offer.

With this vision in his mind and dream in his heart, he founded Timeless Barbados Inc. where he carried out the roles of founder, director and producer of the Barbados Music Awards.

The Barbados Music Awards has acknowledged some of the biggest Barbadian recording artists of all time including Shontelle, Livvi Franc and of course my favorite, Rihanna.

Last week, Friday October 14th to be exact, the forty-two committee members of the Barbados Music Awards met at Kensington Oval for a three-hour meeting concerning the event. During this time consuming and unabated meeting, they carefully selected the nominees for the various categories of the BMA’s.

Interview With Rosay Kool

Rosay Kool is a Caribbean recording artist currently signed to Island Mayhem Caribbean Records. He has been rapping for quite a while now, however he no longer considers himself simply a rapper but instead an entertainer with many ambitions before him. He dreams everyday of making it on the international scene where he may represent his country Barbados to the fullest, showing many not only what he has to offer but also what his country has to offer. Kool views music as a way of expression and a way in which he may vent his feelings, thoughts and ideas. Kool looks up to artiste like Andre 3000, Will Smith, J Cole, Mos Def, Jay Z, Pharrel, Dom Kennedy, Big Sean, Chris Brown, Michael Jackson, Tinie Tempah and Black Eyed Peas who play a very important role in his career in terms of inspiration. Kool is starting to make his footprint on the global scene as his debut single Solo Party reached #7 on X 106.9FM in Canada and also receives air play around the UK. Under the management of Jamal P. Cobham, owner of Island Mayhem Caribbean Records, Kool plans to put his best foot forward and fulfill all of his motives as he takes a big dive into the music industry and they take the world by storm. I recently obtained the opportunity to sit down and have a chat with this highly talented artist about his career and what he hopes to do in the near future.

How did your career begin?

My rap career began at high school. Some may not believe it but I started out as a dancehall artist, however during a physics class, two of my colleagues Shakiel Rock and Rion Louis who were “rap heads” had planned to perform for a school concert, in which they said it’ll be good if we all formed a group and came up with something. This thus lead to us forming a group by the name of “Enswaggered Scholars.” From then on it was school concerts and home recordings until I decided to take it a bit further thus paying for some studio time. This was fairly difficult since I was still a student and worked nowhere! But as the saying goes a man has to do what he has to do! Lol As time progressed I was eventually signed to “Island Mayhem Caribbean Records.”

What does Rap mean to you?

I view rap as a skilled way of expressing ones feelings, thoughts and ideas.

How would you define your style of music?

I would define my style of music as experimental, as I enjoy trying new stuff out and in essence trying to be different and keep on improving thus broadening my skill base.

Who influenced you to begin rapping?

My classmates as I mentioned earlier influenced me to begin rapping.

How do you separate yourself from other artists?

Well basically I just try to come different as I also mentioned earlier instead of the “same ol same ol”, I believe my experimental style separates me from other artists.

How did you end up being signed with Island Mayhem Caribbean Records?

Well this was all initiated when I performed at “BCC’s Talent Show” a few years back. After the performance on my way out, the head of the record label Jamal Cobham approached me, and asked me if I would like management as he saw a lot of talent and potential in me. From then on it was strictly work work work and more work! lol

So, what are your thoughts on the current state of the ‘game’?

I believe the game has changed a lot over the years however locally I would say that it is definitely on the rise as local artist are now gaining more recognition.

Who do you want to work with in the future?

My dream is to work with David Guetta on a track featuring Travis McCoy! Or probably jump on something with Mr.West or Jigga!

What do you wish to accomplish through your music?

Like any other aspiring artist my wish is to “make it” in the music industry where my music may be heard and played all over the world, thus allowing the world to hear what I have to offer.

Who has helped you to be so successful thus far?

Friends and family but most importantly my manager Jamal Cobham, since he played an integral role in my career thus far. He was who striked the match to begin with and also through him I gained a lot of knowledge, exposure and management for which I am very thankful for.

Do you have anything else that you would like your fans to know?

Well basically just look out for more music and keep supporting a brother. I promise not to disappoint, as I will continue to put my best foot forward and go “hard as ever”, in hot pursuit of my dream. Also I would like all supporters and fans of my music to know that I am very thankful for the support they have given me thus far.

What do you think about Entertainment Daily (https://entdaily.wordpress.com)?

I think entertainment daily is great. My main reason for saying this is that it has a good appeal to it and also it allows for increase exposure of people who have stuff to offer and portray to the general public, for example artiste like my self.
